Port LaBelle was originally developed as a single-family planned housing community in the early 1970’s by General Development Corporation.
GDC was responsible for many single-family housing communities in Southwest Florida cities including; Port Charlotte, North Port, and more.
Port LaBelle is located on 31,000 acres three miles east of LaBelle. The area includes over 13,000 residential lots.
In the next 30 years, four community subdivisions have been developed in Port LaBelle, each subdivision designed with greenbelt areas surrounding each neighborhood. These areas include plenty of oak and citrus trees. Three out of the four subdivisions include underground utilities to preserve the spacious, natural, open look of the area.
The area includes its own parks and marina.
In recent years, development on three new subdivisions has been completed in Port LaBelle, bringing the total number of subdivisions in Port LaBelle to seven, all with the distinctive natural look of the area.
While much has been developed, much remains unspoiled, unfenced vacant one-quarter acre lots.
Port LaBelle Government
Port LaBelle is part of the LaBelle city’s government.
LaBelle’s government is a Mayor form of government. The city is governed by the mayor and a four member city commission.
The Hendry County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for policing the city.
LaBelle has its own Fire District. There is one fire station located in LaBelle.

According to the 2010 census report, the population of Port LaBelle is 3,530 people, an increase of 15.7% since 2000. There are 1,376 total homes with 687 occupied by owner.
