Naples

Founded in the late 1800’s, Naples has grown out of the swamps of the Everglades to one of the most gorgeous areas on the Southwest coast of Florida.

Known for its vast amount of beaches, golf courses, and culture, Naples has become known worldwide as a playground for the rich and famous.

Some of the "celebrity" residents of Naples include; Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Mike Ditka, Buzz Aldrin, and more.

Naples is the county seat for Collier County.

In 2009, Naples was ranked as one of the 10 pricey cities worth its high cost.

While known for its beaches and golfing, Naples offers nature lovers an array of preserves including; Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, and Picayune Strand State Forest.

Culture and nightlife is also a popular attraction for Naples. 5th Avenue South and 3rd Street South are known for their variety of antique shops and nightclubs. The Village on Venetian Bay and the Waterside Shops are both open air high end retail centers located in Naples.

Naples is also home to the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra.

Called the “Golf Capital of the World”, Naples is home to over 80 golf courses.

Naples Government

Naples government is a Mayor form of government with a City Manager. The city government is made up of six council members and a mayor.

The Naples Police Department is responsible for policing the city.

Naples also has its own fire district and is served by five separate fire stations.

According to the 2010 census report; the population of Pine Island is 19,537 people, a decrease of 6.9% since 2000. There are 17,753 total homes with 8,012 occupied by owner.
