Located South of Naples, Marco Island is the largest of Southwest Florida’s famous Ten Thousand Islands.

Marco Island along with the city of Naples and the western portions of the Everglades make up what is known as the Paradise Coast.

Marco Island was originally founded by Ponce de Leon in the 1500’s and named La Isla de San Marco. In 1998, Marco Island was incorporated as a city as part of Collier County.

The total area of Marco Island is 17.1 square miles, roughly 6.5 square miles is water.

Marco Island is also home to celebrity residents such as; country music singer Alan Jackson, professional golfer Ken Venturi, country music singer Shania Twain, radio personality Robin Quivers, retired Notre Dame Head Football Coach Ara Parseghian, and more.

Marco Island Government

Marco Island government is a Council-City Manager form of government. The city government is made up of seven council members including a Chairman and Vice-Chairman.

The Marco Island Police Department is responsible for policing the city.

Marco Island has its own Fire District and has one fire station.

Marco Island is part of the Collier County School District.

According to the 2010 census report, the population of Marco Island is 16,413 people, an increase of 27.4% since 2000. There are 17,134 total homes with 7,051 occupied by owner.
